About Me!

Hello, welcome to my blog, I’m Jaxsen, a Hopewell student in Bettendorf, Iowa. I really enjoy sports, some sports I play are football, baseball, basketball and track. Some of my favorite hobbies are swimming, jumping on the trampoline, playing baseball with my dad, reading, playing monopoly and watching my favorite professional sports teams. I also enjoy making music by playing piano or singing in choir. At the start of my life I struggled with reading because teachers would just let you out the door without marking your pages in grades earlier than 5th grade. I feel like my reading has gotten better due to teachers like Mrs. Hornick and Miss. Meuser. Both of these teachers would check in with me and would ask what is going on in my book. This really helped me to consistently read every night. Both of these teachers are also avid readers so we will talk about the books I’ve read because they’ve read them too! Also, something that helped me get better at reading is that last year was when I participated in a culture of readers project for 5th graders. It was a competition boys vs girls and obviously I wanted to win. Also, it promoted my reading and helped me get to the goal of reading 30 books a year that Miss Meuser wanted us to get to. Lastly, something that helped my reading is that over the summer you could read for prizes because the Bettendorf library would give you things everytime you finished a book or read a certain amount of pages they would reward you for reading.

I believe that people’s perspective can change through reading a book. Also, I believe that you can read about a past that might’ve been scary like the Holocaust, to help events like this from happening again. On this blog, I plan to share the books I read, my journeys as a leader in reading and how my perspectives have changed with what I read. I hope you come back to check out how my reading journey is going!
